Environment and Natural Resources Management

This program is intended to amplify our work in environment conservation as well as contribute to SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities. Our goal in establishing this program is to ensure proper management of solid waste, sustainable extraction of natural resources and proper land use planning in Siaya County. We also contribute to the long-term outcome of having proper systems for land use, solid waste and natural resource extraction management established in the county.

Our Strategic Objectives:

Objective 1: Establish proper solid waste management systems

Under this objective, we contribute to the following key result areas:

  1. Provision of adequate solid waste collection and disposal points in urban areas
  2. Adoption of efficient solid waste recycling methods

Objective 2: Improve community participation in waste management activities

Under this objective, we shall contribute to the following key result areas:

  1. Increased community knowledge on effects of solid waste on environment
  2. Establishment of mechanisms for community participation in waste management

Objective 3:  Enhance implementation of environmental laws

Under this objective, we shall contribute to the following key result areas:

  1. Increased awareness of environmental laws among duty bearers and community members
  2. Increased resource allocation for enforcement of environmental laws

Objective 4: Enhance community access to alternative sources of livelihoods

Under this objective, we shall contribute to the following key result areas:

  1. Increased awareness on alternative sources of livelihoods among community members
  2. Improved skills and knowledge on alternative livelihood sources among community members

Objective 5:  Support development and implementation of county land use plans

Under this objective, we shall contribute to the following key result areas:

  1. Increased awareness on importance of land use plans among community members
  2. County spatial land use plans to guide land use are developed
